( technosexual )

Sorry, moved those production photos...

What is this sitcom all about? Well, let's explore the key themes!

What is "technosexual"?

"Technosexual" is a new word used to describe an individual in one of two ways. Wikipedia says both - I'm just gonna paste the first definition, as that's what we're on about here. Would you like to read the whole article yourself? Click here.

A person (usually a male) with a strong aesthetic sense and a love of gadgets. In this sense, it is a portmanteau word combining "technophile" and "metrosexual", which was first promoted by creative professional Ricky Montalvo to describe "a dandyish narcissist in love with not only himself, but also his urban lifestyle and gadgets; a straight man who is in touch with his feminine side but has fondness for electronics such as cell phones, PDAs, computers, software, and the web."

There you are. It's also quite closely related to the word "geek".

But I know what a geek is...

Sure you do ;D Here are some more definitions, from the corresponding Wikipedia article.

  1. A person who is interested in technology, especially computing and new media. Comparable with the classic definition of hacker. The most competent person within a group or enterprise is sometimes called an alpha geek (see alpha male).
  2. A person who relates academic subjects to the real world outside of academic studies — for example, using multivariate calculus to calculate the volume of a cake at a party.
  3. A person who has chosen concentration rather than conformity; one who pursues skill (especially technical skill) and imagination, not mainstream social acceptance. Geeks usually have a strong case of neophilia (a love of novelty and new things). Most geeks are adept with computers and treat "hacker" as a term of respect, but not all are hackers themselves — and some who actually are hackers normally call themselves geeks anyway, because they regard "hacker" as a label that should be bestowed by others rather than self-assumed.
  4. A person with a devotion to something in a way that places him or her outside the mainstream. This could be due to the intensity, depth, or subject of their interest. This definition is very broad, and allows for mathematics geeks, aviation geeks, computer geeks, science geeks (including, among others, physics, chemistry, and biology geeks, as well as social sciences including economics, psychology and sociology), music geeks (audiophile), movie and film geeks (cinephile), comics geeks, theatre geeks, history geeks, gamer geeks, linguistics geeks, SCA geeks, public transit geeks (metrophiles), literature geeks, anime and manga geeks (otaku), Star Wars geeks, Star Trek geeks (Trekkies and Trekkers, the distinction between the two being hotly debated among themselves), Tolkien or fantasy geeks. Sometimes people who contribute a great deal to Wikipedia on obscure topics are considered geeks, especially young people.

Yeah. Are the main characters geeks? Yes. Max is a computer geek, even if she's a bit of a n00b. She's also a girl gamer like Ricki, which makes her a bit of a geek. Kennedy is a bit of a music geek, even if she claims not, and most of us are otaku. Moss is the best geek. He's probably pretty much got the title of hacker. Ash is the biggest Pokémon geek we know...=P Then there's his and Kennedy's broad knowledge of Doctor Who and the like...
